Jem: A Truly Outrageous DVD Series Finally Arrives
Jem understood me in ways that other dolls never did. She was sparkly, pink, and pretty — and she totally beat the shit out of my Barbie dolls in a bitchy dominatrix way. I imbued her with more of a Misfits spirit (Jem’s rival band), because I thought they were a cooler group — the bad girls always had more fun. The TV series occupied that space in my life right before I left for school in the morning — which I dreaded, because I was painfully shy and felt completely out of place. Some girls fantasized about getting married and having babies with Barbie’s boyfriend Ken. I watched Jem and fantasized about living in a swank pad and being a rock star with lots of boyfriends.
I haven’t watched the show since I was a kid, but Shout Factory is releasing the complete series on DVD October 11. Jem fans like myself should be tickled pink, because the distributor always does a bang-up job on their disc sets. Check out the full details below.
